Klondike Solitaire – Turn 1

Turn 1 is the friendlier form of classic Klondike: each click on the stock reveals a single card, and every revealed card is immediately playable. Because you can reach every stock card on every pass, most deals are winnable with patient play.

How Turn 1 Changes the Game

With one card revealed at a time there are no buried stock cards — order simply doesn't matter the way it does in Turn 3. This makes Turn 1 the best mode for learning tableau technique: when you lose, it is almost always because of tableau decisions, not stock luck.

Playing Turn 1 well is mostly about restraint: draw before committing to irreversible tableau moves, and keep low cards available until their suits are established on the foundations. If you find Turn 1 comfortable, graduate to Turn 3 for a real challenge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Turn 1 easier than Turn 3?

Yes, significantly. Every stock card is playable when revealed, so you always have full information and access. Most players win two to three times more often in Turn 1.

Is there a penalty for recycling the stock?

You can recycle the stock as often as you like. Under classic scoring a recycle in Turn 1 costs 100 points, but it never blocks you from continuing.
